The grain is interlocked or wavy and the texture fairly fine. Mechanical Properties: Despite high crushing and medium bending strength, Sapele has a poor steam bending classification as the wood buckles and ruptures severely. Seasoning: Dries fairly rapidly with a marked tendency to distort. Uses: Quality furniture and cabinet making, joinery, shop fitting, office furniture, solid doors, boat building, musical instruments, sports goods, counter tops and flooring. Extensively used as a constructional veneer for plywood and selected logs are sliced panelling and decorative face veneers for cabinets and marquet. KERUING Uses: Used for many purposes for which oak was formerly used, for example, frames, flooring and sides for road vehicles, and boat building. Suitable for general construction work, but liable to exude resin if used for exterior joinery exposed to the sun. Up to 75mm thickness. 25mm x 150mm Tongue and Grooved. SOUTHERN YELLOW PINE General Description: The heartwood is yellowish to reddish brown, generally resinous. Uses: Furniture, panelling staircases, bench seating, interior & exterior joinery, boat building and floors. 25, 32 & 38mm thickness. 300mm widths. WESTERN RED CEDAR This timber derives from north America, one of the world’s most enlightened forest areas. Cedar is reddish-brown in colour, light of weight, straight of grain and naturally durable, making it ideal for outdoor uses such as conservatory and greenhouse construction, cladding and garden furniture manufacture. Available Ex-work. Keruing is the name given to the timber yielded from more than 70 species of the genus Dipterocarpus. This group of large hardwoods is indigenous to South East Asia, where the species are harvested from managed forests with regeneration programs.
